STAFF REPORT

San Marcos Mayor Daniel Guerrero recently proclaimed the third week of November as Manske Roll Week.

The Manske Roll is plump, buttery cinnamon roll which has been featured at Gil’s Broiler, 328 North LBJ Drive, since 1949. The restaurant offers the options of having the roll drenched with caramel, served with a melted Hershey bar or even a la mode. Tasty as those options may be, many feel this is gilding the Manske Roll lily.

The Manske Roll was a favorite of President Lyndon Baines Johnson. It has served as treat for soldiers and even has a fan in country music giant George Strait.  Manske Rolls, for many San Marcans and Texas State students, continue to be a legendary and iconic area treat.
