Map: Proposed FM 110

MERCURY MAP by BRAD ROLLINS

About $5 million from Hays County’s 2001 road bond project was dedicated to designing FM 110 and securing environmental clearance from federal authorities, including the Federal Highway Administration. With that head start, Hays County Commissioner Will Conley said, FM 110 is nearly shovel-ready. Hover over the place markers for more information about the proposed San Marcos eastern loop:

It is interesting to see the traffic counts for the Wonder World extension. It seems like we were anticipating 16,000 cars per day. 21,000 is almost 33% more. If I remember the details correctly, that should work out to as much as $3.4 million reimbursed in the first year.

It would be great to see some kind of confirmation from the county.

The Wonder World pass-through agreement is between TxDOT and the city of San Marcos. But you ask a good question. I don’t know how far of anticipated reimbursements they are.

The most recent traffic counts TxDOT has posted on its website are from 2011. According to these figures, between 2009 and 2011, traffic on Wonder World at Hunter increased from 14,300 in 2009 to 21,000.

http://www.dot.state.tx.us/travel/traffic_maps/default.htm

Traffic load on interior streets showed decreases:

Hunter/Hopkins near Bishop
2009 – 20,000
2011 – 14,000

Hopkins west of LBJ
2009 – 18,800
2011 – 17,900

Hopkins east of LBJ
2009 – 22,000
2011 – 18,400

I don’t know if the traffic counts were done the same time of year. In San Marcos, that would make a big difference. It could also be evidence that the Wonder World Drive extension works as advertised.

Oops. It’s been awhile. I was confusing projects. I can’t say that I remember ever seeing the per vehicle/mile reimbursement rate for the Wonder World extension. I had the big county road bond in my head, which (I think) was 14 cents.

Maybe someone on here knows what the rate was for the Wonder World extension?

Thanks for the map Brad. What it doesn’t show is a proposed scenario that would have 110 turn north as it crosses I-35 at Yarrington and then connecting at FM 150 and Old Stagecoach in Kyle. I like that route.
