San Marcos Mercury | Local News from San Marcos and Hays County, Texas

The Hays County Courthouse, 111 East San Antonio St., will host a tree lighting ceremony on November 28 starting at 6 p.m. The historic courthouse grounds will feature decorations and a trail of lights.

Santa Claus will be inside the courthouse by the Christmas tree from 6:15-7 p.m. to listen to children’s gift requests. The Scheib Christmas Carolers and the “Fourtunate” A Cappella Quartet will provide musical entertainment while refreshments  are being served.

Brown Santa will be collection unwrapped toys and cash donations from attendees who would like to contribute. Brown Santa is a program of the Hays County Sheriff’s  office which gives presents to children who would otherwise go without a gift on Christmas. Almost 2,600 children were served last year through the generosity of community contributors and volunteers. Gifts for children aged 11-15 are a particular need this year.

The event is free and open to Hays County residents and their guests. The trail of lights will be open and available to the public through December 31.
