STAFF REPORT

Construction crews will close the eastbound lane of East Hutchison from CM Allen Parkway to LBJ Drive on Monday, Oct. 29 for utility improvements and roadway reconstruction.

The construction is part of the Downtown Reconstruction Phase 1, the 23-month, $10.2 million project that began in September.

The work on Hutchison Street includes the installation of a box culvert, a duct bank for underground utility lines, and reconstruction of the roadway. In addition, sidewalks will be widened to a pedestrian-friendly 13 feet width in keeping with the vision of the Downtown Master Plan.

The 200 and 300 blocks of the street will be affected. Road crews will temporarily restripe the angled parking spaces from the alley to C M Allen to be parallel parking spaces to allow for a safer work zone. Completion of this portion of the project is anticipated in mid-2013.

Work will continue on the installation of a waterline along CM Allen Parkway. Completion of this section is estimated to be early November. A minimum of one lane will remain open on CM Allen at all times.

Access to downtown businesses will be maintained at all times during the project, and the contractor will provide wayfinding signs to guide customers to businesses affected during the construction.

The estimated completion time for the Downtown Reconstruction project is in the summer of 2014.
