I am very sorry that this did not turned out as I had originally planned and I am making some changes for this year. The barrel train ride will NOT go through a ‘haunted tunnel’. Also, I will instruct my volunteers from the ‘Haunted Hayride’ to not ‘scare’ the children on the barrel train ride. I was unaware that this was too much for them, as I am the only one in charge of this event and have a lot going on during the Carnival. HERE IS A WARNING FOR THE PARENTS OF LITTLE KIDS: Last year what was billed as a barrel train ride for little kids was NOT for little kids. They took the same route as the haunted ride which meant that little kids were being scared. One little girl in particular comes to mind, she couldn’t have been more than seven years old. I heard her screaming at the top of her lungs,”MOMMY!!! HELP ME!!!”, repeatedly and I saw several other children crying. The look of terror and abandoment on her face has stuck with me. Had it been my child I would have stopped the ride. The operator of the ride didn’t care nor did the person who answered the phone at the Parks and Rec Department the next day. It was all very sad and very cruel.
