Video: Chief deploys ‘doomsday device’ on San Marcos scene

Local artist Greg Williams, who performs as Chief and TheDoomsDayDevice, moved to San Marcos in 1998 to attend Southwest Texas State University. He used to host a specialty show on the KTSW 89.9 called Underground Sounds and worked at Sundance Record.
Part of the regular lineup at Triple Crown, Chief says the style of his DJ/emcee/performance act is hard to classify. He does allows a certain kinship with hiphop, which was born at about the same time in the late 1970s and grew up, as he sees it, on a parallel track with Williams. He says, “I feel like me and hiphop could be brothers or cousins.”
