A well written article answering the question why San Marcos Loved Rob Robinson though just like the other guys here I’ve never been to this place and never meet this guy but reading this article make things clearer and gives and adequate answer why do they love RObin. While I didn’t know Rob, nor did I ever enter his shop, I too found nothing offensive about this article.
I find the article well written and descriptive. From the article I can tell that those who frequented the establishment enjoyed their time there and looked forward to the gabfests with others and Rob.

There are also those of us who knew, respected and loved Rob and will never get enough about this guy, his friends and the character he brought to and nurtured in San Marcos. I did not find the article distasteful or offensive and am glad to hear that Shirley has accomplished what she has in keeping the shop and that character going!

Saying that “in short, the store as he left it was a mess” is pretty distasteful and offensive. Whether or not he left behind a lot for the family to clean up, it is disrespectful to write like that about a man the writer clearly did not know. There has been a colorful cast of characters who regularly would meet and jam or just sit and talk politics and there is little mention in this article about that or why “it’s the last bastion of sanity” in San Marcos. I hope someone somewhere, maybe a writer in Texas Monthly, does a really solid piece on Rob and the humidor. I don’t know what it’s like without him but I used to frequent the place in college and it was far better than this article indicates. I personally loved his collections.

Two points this article makes. First, Wes Furgeson never met Rob Robinson. Second, the Mercury is setting the journalistic bar lower with tabloid-quality reporting. Sad days for everyone, indeed.

This is one of the worst articles I’ve ever read. Rob truly deserve much better than this.
