Wanted: A San Marcos area veteran of the armed services worthy of special recognition as Grand Marshal for the San Marcos 2012 Veterans Day Parade.
For the fifth year in a row, the veteran or veterans chosen for the special parade leadership honor will be selected by a special committee and will be profiled before the parade, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012.
Nominations for grand marshal should be submitted to Lisa Morris, Recreation Programs Manager, at email@example.com by Oct. 5, or they may be hand delivered or mailed to the Parks and Recreation office at the Grant Harris Building, 401 E. Hopkins Street, San Marcos, 78666.
Nominations must include the full name and relevant details of the individual’s military service, along with detailed contact information, including a telephone number. An electronic nomination format is preferred.

Last year, four veterans were honored. They included World War II WASP veteran Jerry Badger, who served as grand marshal; and honor guard members Mike Aguirre, U.S. Army WWII veteran; Jerry Soto, U.S. Marine Corps, early Vietnam veteran; and Jude Prather, U.S. Army, Iraq veteran.
As in the recent past, the Grand Marshal will lead the parade with the Honor Guard following in either cars or on a flatbed trailer.
Morris, who provides support to the City’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, and Special Events Coordinator Jennifer Shaw are providing the leadership and support to make the growing Veterans Day Parade even larger.
The Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee will work with Parks and Recreation to coordinate this year’s Veterans Day activities. San Marcos Main Street Director Kelly Franks, the San Marcos Kiwanis Club and members of local veterans’ organizations will join the committee and the Parks and Recreation staff once again.
