When she was attending school at TX State, good ol' Frisbee Dan hit on my daughter while she was with friends at Sewell one day.

She was probably 22 at the time. He's older than I am. The math does not work in his favor.

Coming on to a younger woman is not a crime. But she found him creepy, especially when he asked, "Don't you know who I am?"

For both my daughter and me, asking that question is pretty much an automatic conversation killer, no matter whom you're talking to. It smacks of way too much self-regard. I may not know who you are, pal, but I sure as hell don't care to now.

I know San Marcos is a wonderful haven for the dreadlocked, the barefooted, the sun-worshipping, the Frisbee flinging, the whatever. That's partly why so many folks love living here. But it seems to me these two characters would do well to start acting less like eccentric exhibitionists and more like adult men. Just a thought.

"Progressive and humanitarian age"? "1 percenters?" What the heck does that have to do with Sewell Park? Don't hurt your back reaching so far....

As far as the park, there have been signs there that say "Student ID required to enter" as long as I can remember (back to the early 90s), and I have only seen security enforce the rules a time or two. It's generally when skateboarders would try to take over one of the bridges or the basketball court area.

Sewell Park is owned and maintained by Texas State. They have every right to restrict who can enter. Practically speaking, it's not possible to check every single person who enters for a Texas State ID, but I'm all for them removing people causing problems. I'm sure if someone started a physical altercation in a park owned by the city, they would also be removed. No one has a right to act like a child and start a fight.

I think it's acceptable to ban those who engage in unseemly behavior (aggressive, abusive, etc.), but @Carly Elizabeth: I find it quite ironic that anyone would think that an area once owned by the US Fish & Wildlife Service (formerly the US Bureau of Fisheries) and later donated to the university, should forbid its local citizens visitation rights there with the exception of students (who are usually only temporary residents). This smacks of an elitist attitude that one associates with the 1 percenters who are out of step with the progressive and humanitarian age which many of us are seeking to promote. For those who desire private parks and rivers, please go home to your country clubs. San Marcos is for everyone...not only students!
