City to host brush drop-off day

STAFF REPORT

The City of San Marcos will host a “green waste” brush drop-off on Saturday Sept. 15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 750 River Road behind the San Marcos Animal Shelter.

Citizens will be limited to one trailer load per address and will need to present a copy of their utility bill showing that they are a garbage or recycling customer of the city.

Customers will be required to unload their own vehicles.

Material will be chipped by Austin Wood Recycling for use in landscaping products. Chipped material will be available at the site for customers to load during the same hours.

“One of the goals in the City’s Solid Waste Master Plan is to prevent ‘green waste’ from going into the landfill when it could just as easily be collected and turned into something useful,” Moyer said. “Recycling ‘green waste’ saves room in the landfill and provides people with free landscaping material.”

The event is a pilot program for developing green waste disposal options to present to the City Council. The drop off site will also accept brush for recycling from the Blanco River North Neighborhood Clean Up which is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
