San Marcos police are investigating the death of an man whose body was found by utility workers early this morning on a trail along the railroad tracks between Interstate 35 and River Road.
The victim, described as a white male and possibly a transient in his 40s, has not been identified. The body was taken to Central Texas Autopsy in Lockhart, Texas for autopsy.
The cause of death is unknown at this time, but it appears as though the man may have been run over by a vehicle after he set up a makeshift camp near the trail and fell asleep in the off-road pathway, said Sgt. Mike Wellman of the police department’s Criminal Investigation division.
The body was discovered by a private utility worker at approximately 2 a.m. Friday.
San Marcos Police Department detectives are investigating the incident. Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the victim is asked to call San Marcos Police at the non-emergency number, 512-753-2108.
