Advance tickets to the LBJ Museum of San Marcos’ ‘60s Night fundraiser on Friday will be on sale for $20 through noon the day of the event.
Tickets are on sale at the Root Cellar and Tantra’s in downtown San Marcos and at Wake the Dead Coffee House on Ranch Road 12. They will be available at the museum, located at 131 N. Guadalupe, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday. Tickets will be $25 at the door Friday evening.
The event begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3.
The colorful decade of the 1960s and President Lyndon B. Johnson’s term in the White House will be in focus at the museum’s third “back-to-the-‘60s” fundraiser. Guests are encouraged to wear ‘60s attire and/or come as celebrities from the era to the event. Prizes will be awarded for the best male and female costumes.
A selection of ‘60s album covers, literature, movie posters and photos of celebrities who are identified with that decade will be displayed and the conference room will be turned into a coffee house. Also on display will be photos of President Johnson on such key occasions as the signing of the historic Civil Rights bill and the Higher Education Act of 1965, which he signed on the campus of his alma mater.
The quirky Friday night event will feature music by Jesse Sublett, The Ash Family and Dennis Jay. Among the new features of the 2012 version of ‘60s Night will be an old-fashioned coffee house set up by Tantra in the museum’s second floor conference room. After the live musicians, recorded music for dancing, complete with a light show, will be provided by Tim Beard.
All tickets reserved on the museum’s Facebook page or via telephone or e-mail should be picked up and paid for by the 12 noon Friday deadline, according to Museum Manager Bill Cunningham.
For more information, contact Cunningham at 512-353-3300 or 512-393-8828 or board president Ed Mikalkanin at 512-396-3648. Or, you can e-mail the museum here.
