San Marcos police arrested a 22-year-old man earlier this month who they say failed to comply with requirements of his status as a registered sex offender.
Bryan Zeke Gil, 22, was picked up July 2 as part of a routine compliance check of the 54 registered sex offenders who live in San Marcos. Gil was convicted of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl eight years ago when he was 14 years old, state sex offender records show.
He was released the next day on $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
Registered sex offenders are required to register a minimum of once a year to update their records and photographs. Offenders are also required to notify the police department within seven days of any changes in their home address, work location, or other physical status.
“The San Marcos Police Department conducts these random compliance checks to ensure the information provided by convicted offenders is accurate,” said Cmdr. Penny Dunn, who leaders the police department’s Criminal Investigations division.
Forty three of the sex offenders living in San Marcos were convicted of crimes against children, police say.Email | Print
