In its 20th year, the Stars of Texas Gala this fall will honor San Marcos entrepreneur and philanthropist Terry Gilmore. Country music star Neal McCoy will perform.
The gala is Sunday, Oct. 7 at the San Marcos Convention Center and Embassy Suites hotel.
Gilmore founded the gala two decades ago as a fundraiser for Central Texas Medical Center. Proceeds this year will help pay for the hospital’s newly acquired da Vinci surgery-performing robot. It cost $2 million and is the first of its kind between Austin and San Antonio.
“Since first implemented in late May, the hospital has performed 26 da Vinci procedures, and patients have experienced shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times and little scarring,” said Sam Huenergardt, the hospital’s president and chief executive officer. “Robotic surgery is the right choice for our region.”
McCoy, a Longview resident, has sold more than 6 million albums with five No. 1 hits.
