For the first time, part of the Sun Belt Conference’s media day will be carried on ESPN3, the sports network’s internet video streaming platform.

Sun Belt officials heralded the news as a sign that the league is gaining in national stature.

The presence of ESPN3 at our Football Media Day will give viewers an inside look at our event and will show that the Sun Belt Conference is a growing power in collegiate football,” Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson said.

The season preview event will include interviews with the conference’s 10 head coaches plus two more whose universities have signed up for the 2013 season, including Texas State University’s Dennis Franchione.

Texas State is joining the Sun Belt next year after a single year in the Western Athletic Conference, which is losing some of its marquee names to competitor conferences. Georgia State will also join the Sun Belt next year.

ESPN3 says it reached 73 million people either through high-speed Internet, mobile phones and tablets.
