Chase Harper is getting noticed as promising tight end. TEXAS STATE PHOTO


Texas State senior Chase Harper has been named to the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List by the Nassau County Sports Commission.

Harper recorded 20 receptions for 287 yards and three touchdowns in 2011. He caught two passes for 74 yards, including a 71-yard touchdown reception during the Bobcats’ game versus at Stephen F. Austin. Those plays earned him FCS Independent Player of the Week honors.

He earned Player of the Week honors a second time after catching four passes for 66 yards versus Prairie View A&M. He also became the second Bobcat tight end to record two touchdowns in a game when he caught three passes for 56 yards and two touchdowns against Lamar.

The John Mackey Award, named for the National Football League Hall of Famer, is awarded each year to the best tight end in college football. All eleven of its recepients since its founding in 2000 have gone on to play in the NFL.
