Broken Umbrella Academy, an indie/folk ensemble, is among the bands that will help Tantra Cofeehouse celebrate its sixth birthday tonight, July 7.
The band describes its work as featuring “woven poetry and dynamic arrangements” originating “from the simplicity of a piano or guitar to the full impact of an orchestra.” Five of the six band members contribute to vocals.
Broken Umbrella Academy includes two classically trained musicians and Texas State alumni: keyboarder/vocalist Shannon O’Shea and cellist/vocalist Josh Weber.
Talley Barnes, who plays trombones and sings, also performs with Kabomba! and FunkOtron. Guitarist and vocalist Matt Schuster also performs with Kabomba! and Blacktop Ninjas. Drummer Luis Rodriguez originally hails from Corpus Christi. Fort Worth native Casi Moss on Glokenspiel and percussion rounds out the group.
Tantra’s celebration started at 1 p.m. Live music starts at 8 p.m.
