SUBMITTED REPORT

Hays County Veterans Services Officer Jude Prather sent out this press release this afternoon:

On July 7, 2012, the city of Austin, along with The Welcome Home Iraq Veterans Committee, is sponsoring a parade in honor of veterans who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

This inaugural event will commence with a parade, replete with marching bands and floats, followed by a commemoration ceremony and a job fair.

During the course of the day there will also be a fundraiser for the Texas VFW’s “Veteran Assistance Program,” which assists veterans with financial hardship, and a station at which volunteers will assemble care-packages for service members currently serving in Afghanistan.

Veterans and non-veterans alike are welcomed to come enjoy the festivities in downtown Austin and support their local veterans.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. at Congress Avenue and Town Lake and proceeds to the Capital. For more information visit: http://welcomehomeiraqveterans.org/
