STAFF REPORT

Seton Medical Center Hays is offering free electrocardiogram heart screenings for student athletes ages 14 to 18 years old this weekend.

The screenings will be offered 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 30 at the hospital, 6001 Kyle Parkway in Kyle. The test is designed to identify potentially fatal genetic conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

“HCM is a genetic heart condition that usually doesn’t impair physical activity, but it is a set up for a potentially fatal rhythm problem that could happen right on the playing field,” said Dr. George Rodgers, president of Championship Hearts Foundation, a Texas nonprofit agency that is sponsoring the screenings.

For information, or to pre-register for the screenings, visit the website here or call 512-340-7320.
