Texas Tech officials are thinking about canceling their Sept. 8 game versus Texas State University rather than have it air on ESPN’s Longhorn Network, RedRaiderSports.com is reporting.
The website cited an unnamed athletic department source as saying Tech is “adamantly opposed to playing on the Longhorn Network” and is “putting serious consideration into canceling the game.”
“We are extremely disappointed,” the source told RedRaiderSports.com, which is part of the Yahoo! Rivals.com network. “Our hope is that the Texas State game will be played on a primary ESPN platform.”
ESPN announced in June that it would air the game but didn’t say on which of its channels. The matchup is scheduled to be Texas State’s first home game of the season, following the opener Sept. 1 at University of Houston.
Tech athletics administration has had an aversion to the Longhorn Network since it launched nearly a year ago. During the 2011 season, Tech refused to let the network broadcast its conference game against the University of Texas on the Longhorn Network, the website reports.
