San Marcos residents are invited to a public meeting on upcoming road, drainage and utility improvements at Hopkins Street and Thorpe Lane.
The meeting is slated for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 31 at the Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins, hosted by the city of San Marcos Engineering and Capital Improvements department.
The project will provide major road and intersection improvements on East Hopkins (Highway 80) and Thorpe Lane, one of the busiest areas of San Marcos.
East Hopkins from Charles Austin Drive to Long Street will be rebuilt. In addition, the project will replace storm drains on Thorpe Lane from Springtown Way to Hopkins, and water lines under Thorpe Lane. New traffic signals will be installed at Hopkins and Thorpe Lane as well as at Thorpe and Robbie Lanes.
The contractor, project manager and City engineers will present an overview of the project, provide project details, the project schedule and be on hand to answer questions.
The project is slated to begin in June with crews breaking ground at the Charles Austin Drive edge of the project. Construction is expected to take seven months.
Capital Excavation Company of Austin was awarded the $1,702,739 construction contract by the San Marcos City Council on May 15. The total cost and funding for this project is projected to be $2,145,758.
