Eight candidates for three available seats on the Pedernales Electric Cooperative Board of Directors will give speeches and answer questions at a series of forums including on in Kyle on Tuesday, May 15.
The first of these is planned for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 at PEC headquarters, 201 S. Ave. F in Johnson City. Future forums are scheduled for Kyle on May 15, Marble Falls on June 5 and Canyon Lake on June 6. All of the forums start at 5:30 p.m.
Fully half of the contenders in this year’s board elections hail from the Wimberley area including two incumbents, former board chair Larry Landaker and board member Patrick Cox.
Landaker has three opponents for the District 6 seat, which covers western Hays, northern Comal and eastern Blanco counties. His challengers include Linda Kaye Rogers and Michael Donegan, both of Wimberley, and Mike “Doc” Cantu-Withoff of Canyon Lake.
Cox who is running unopposed for his second four-year term representing District 7, an area that includes Kyle, Buda and mostly unincorporated areas north and northwest of San Marcos.
In District 1, incumbent Cristi Clement of Marble Falls is running against Mark Mayfield of Marble Falls and James P. Halbert of Burnet.
The cooperative is mailing candidate biographies and ballots to its members by May 9 and mail-in votes must be cast by June 15. Ballots can also be cast at PEC’s annual meeting, to be held June 23 in Kyle.
