The already simmering race in Senate District 25 continues to heat up.
Last week, state Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio, released a harsh television ad depicting his opponent, former railroad commissioner Elizabeth Ames Jones, as a literal puppet being controlled by Texans for Lawsuit Reform — or, as the ad says, “a big business special interest group from Houston.”
Today, Jones’s campaign put out an ad of its own responding to the attack. It features Bexar County District Attorney Susan Reed, who says in the 30-second spot, “I know political campaigns can be rough, but Wentworth’s attacks on Elizabeth Ames Jones are exactly what’s wrong with politics today.”
A similar sentiment — though, in this case, aimed at both Wentworth and Jones — was expressed by Donna Campbell, an emergency room doctor who is also vying for the seat. Campbell told the Tribune last week, “I believe the way to win is the fact that people are tired of politics as usual. My opponents fight back and forth. That’s politics as usual.”
Here’s the ad from the Jones campaign:
