City of San Marcos employees are planning a fun run Saturday, April 14 to benefit the families of two City employees who have children battling cancer.

The “Wray and Waylon 5K/1K Walk/Run” will be held at Fire Station 5, 100 Carlson Circle in San Marcos on Saturday morning, April 14. The event also features hot dogs sales, raffles, and organic coffee sales at the event to raise funds for the two families.

Wray is the 15-year old son of Tom and Kelly Buerschinger and Waylon is the 3-year old son of Stacy and Chris Malone. Tom Buerschinger is a Water Quality Technician in the City’s Water/ Wastewater Utility and Stacy Malone is a Support Tech in the Information Technology. Both of their sons were diagnosed with cancer last year.

Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. The adult 5K begins at 9 a.m. and costs $25 per person.

A children’s 1K will begin at 10 a.m. and costs $10 for children 9-12 years old. Children 8 years and younger may participate free.

Pets on leashes and costumes are welcome at the race.
