With considerable regret, we bid farewell to the San Marcos Mercury’s assistant editor, Sean Batura, who is leaving us for bigger and better pursuits.
Batura started work nearly four years ago at what was then Newstreamz San Marcos, later rechristened San Marcos Local News. He was an invaluable ballast when that publication was acquired last year by the San Marcos Mercury and helped us make a seamless transition with his characteristic drive and devotion.
A journalism graduate of Texas State University, Batura’s reports on city and county government have become a mainstay of our civic life since he started at Newstreamz in 2008. He worked tirelessly for years — for relatively modest pay — running down on his bicycle every story he thought might be of interest to San Marcos and the diversity of residents that make this city great. He personifies the San Marcos ideal — intelligent and active and unconventional.
The Mercury, and I, are indebted to Batura. We wish him well.Email | Print
