Several police agencies were involved in an hours-long manhunt on Friday for San Marcos resident Daniel Guerrero-Sierra, who was captured and charged with theft of a vehicle, reckless driving, and two counts of evading arrest.
According to Hays County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Mike Wood, the vehicular portion of the chase began on Interstate 35 and ended in Martindale, lasting about five minutes.
Guerrero-Sierra then reportedly ditched his vehicle, a stolen pickup, at the Shady Grove Campground and continued fleeing on foot near the San Marcos River. Wood said officers found Guerrero-Sierra several hours later unarmed in a field near Humphreys Cemetery, which is about two miles southeast of Martindale.
Responding agencies included SMPD and the Hays, Caldwell, and Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Offices.
Guerrero-Sierra is held at the Hays County Law Enforcement Center on bonds totaling $9,000. The US Immigration and Custom Enforcement agency also placed a detainer on Guerrero-Sierra.
