SUBMITTED REPORT
The San Marcos Fire Department extinguished a structure fire at Gold Crown Billiards at 205 W. San Antonio Street early Friday morning.
At about 2:37 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the fire and found light smoke from the rear of the building, according to Fire Chief Les Stephens. Crews forced entry through a rear door and encountered heavy smoke and heat.
Another crew was sent to the roof and cut a ventilation hole to assist the firefighters inside. Firefighters found a significant fire near the keg cooler area and above the ceiling and quickly put out the blaze.
South Hays County Fire Department provided mutual aid at the scene and New Braunfels Fire Department provided mutual aid to cover additional San Marcos calls while all San Marcos units were at the fire. Most crews were released by 5:30 a.m.
Clean up and investigation of the fire continued Friday morning. No damage estimates were available.
