More than 20 teams from Central Texas will participate in a lacrosse tournament at Five Mile Dam Park in San Marcos on Feb. 18. The event, which begins at 9 a.m., is hosted by the Central Texas Chapter of US Lacrosse and the San Marcos Area Youth Soccer Organization.
Five Mile Dam Park is in northern San Marcos between the Blanco River and the Blanco Vista subdivision.
“I’m hoping that this tournament will be fun for the kids involved and help to showcase the sport to others in the area who might not be familiar with lacrosse,” said State Rep. Jason Isaac (R-Dripping Springs), who serves as the president of the Central Texas Chapter of US Lacrosse. “In addition to bringing some tourism dollars to local businesses, all proceeds from the tournament will be donated to Five Mile Dam Park.”
US Lacrosse is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the promotion of the sport across the state. The Central Texas chapter, which intends to someday expand the sport in Kyle, Buda, and San Marcos, has grown from 36 teams in 2005 to over 100 teams in 2012 during Isaac’s presidency.
Isaac founded the men’s lacrosse program at Stephen F. Austin University when he was a college student, and has been actively involved in the sport ever since. He started the youth lacrosse program in Dripping Springs.
“I am honored to be a part of this organization,” Isaac said. “Lacrosse promotes leadership, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle, which are all qualities that parents work to instill in their children today. I’m thrilled that this tournament pairs my passion for this sport with my dedication to economic development in Hays County.”
