San Marcos Baptist Academy will present the Gilbert and Sullivan classic “The Pirates of Penzance” Feb. 16-18.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on the stage of the Robinson Christian Center on the SMA campus, located at 2801 Ranch Road 12 in San Marcos.

“The Pirates of Penzance” is a comic opera revolving around Frederic, whose apprenticeship to a group of pirates is coming to an end until a leap year loophole threatens to keep him bound for life. Falling for the beautiful daughter of the Major General, Frederic must determine how to reconcile his sense of duty with his love for Mabel. Battles, betrayal and betrothals ensue before the conflicts are resolved and love wins the day.

San Marcos students participating in the cast include Emma Belzung (Ruth), Andrew Hansen (Samuel), Sarah Gonzales (Mabel) and Ben Findley-Cohen (Sergeant of Police), all of San Marcos. Zane Shirley of Kyle is the Pirate King and Adam Rollins of Wimberley is Frederick.

Also in the cast from San Marcos are Tanya Slavik, Ava Garcia, Ayla Roper, Emma Hartsock, Jeffry Loyd, Tom Brotherton and Callie Innerarity. Other performers from the area include MacKenzie Heldstab and Alex Heldstab of Buda and Hank Shirley from Kyle.

Arlis Hiebert and Don Rollins are the directors and Scott Harrison is assisting.
