A performance featuring professional tap dancing and jazz music is slated for Feb. 14 at Texas State University.

Tapestry Dance Company will perform “The Souls of Our Feet,” a fast-paced collection of footwork that pays tribute to the rhythmic tap masterpieces of Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell as well as to contemporary works of living tap masters. Music will be provided by Souls of Our Feet Jazz Trio and international solo artists Arthur Duncan and Acia Gray, among others.

The performance, hosted by Texas State and the Encore University Performing Arts Series, will be at 7:30 p.m. in Evans Auditorium

Tickets for the event are $15 for reserved seating and $5 for students and can be purchased online or at the door.

Tapestry Dance Company is a professional, non-profit dance organization founded in 1989 by rhythm tap dancer Acia Gray and ballet/jazz artist Deirdre Strand for the purpose of developing a foundation in multi-form dance performances and education. The organization started out with a performing company of three, but has since expanded to a major dance organization in Austin. It is home to seven resident artists, a diversified administrative and production support staff and a pre-professional and adult training facility sharing the unique Strand and Gray training syllabus.

The Encore Performing Arts series is coordinated through the university’s College of Fine Arts and Communication.
