The City of San Marcos Utility Customer Service Department will offer recurring credit and debit card payment services for residential utility customers beginning Feb. 1.
Customers with internet access to their utility accounts may go online after Feb. 1 at www.sanmarcostx.gov and click on the “Online Utility Services” icon to add or remove their accounts at any time from credit card payments. The web access is a secure site requiring customers to enter their account information and a password.
“Once activated, the program will automatically debit the total amount due on the account each month, eliminating the need for customers to mail a check or manually pay online every month,” said Ernest Cavazos, utility billing manager. “This will make it very convenient for customers to pay their bills and never have a late payment.”
The city will offer recurring credit card payments to residential customers in February and to commercial customers in March.
“We will make an announcement when we determine the date that commercial service will be activated,” Cavazos said.
Customers wishing to pay with multiple cards or pay partial payments cannot use the recurring credit card function. They may continue to pay in person, online, by telephone (automated call or talking to staff) and at the HEB or the Money Box.
Activation and deactivation of the feature takes effect 24 hours after the customer signs up or opts out. Customers will continue to receive utility bills by mail or, if they choose, by email each month.
