The San Marcos High School Health Occupations Students of America chapter excelled in the Area 1 Competitions this weekend, according to San Marcos CISD spokesperson Iris Campbell said.

The following health occupations students were recognized for their success:

• Patric Perez placed fifth in Epidemiology
• Brittney Brandon, Patric Perez, and Pamela Tovar placed fourth in Community Awareness
• Carpenter Campbell, Ian Gonzalez, and Caleb Ritchie placed fourth in Public Health Emergency Preparedness

The following health occupations students will advance to the State Competition:

• Joey Dolan-Galaviz placed second in Extemporaneous Writing
• Paige Clayton, Rutherford Griffin, Alexis Kulik, and Frankie Torres placed second in Biomedical Debate
• Elaine Reiche placed first in Sports Medicine.

Gonzalez who was recently elected HOSA Area 1 Vice President.
