The city of San Marcos is offering residents recycling and curbside pick-up as two choices for disposing of live Christmas trees after the holidays.

Residents may call 393-8026 to arrange for Texas Disposal Systems to pick up their Christmas trees during the first week of January on their regular trash and recycling day. The pick-up will count as one four bulk pick-ups allotted to customers in a year.

Residents may also take their Christmas trees to the Parks and Recreation Department from now until Jan. 16, 2012 in the parking lot of the Grant Harris, Jr. Building, 401 E. Hopkins.

Christmas trees should be free of lights, decorations and any other material that is not part of the tree. They may be dropped off in a designated area of the Grant Harris, Jr. Building parking lot at any time of day.

Trees are chipped daily during recycling period. The chipped tree matter can be used for mulch in flowerbeds, lawns and gardens. Mulch from the chipped trees is free to the public and must be loaded and picked up in the PARD parking lot during regular business hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
