A Lockhart man who went missing on Dec. 5 suffered a fatal heart attack and was found in the San Marcos River the next day, police say.
Richard Staley, 55, left his home in Lockhart on Dec. 5 to go Christmas shopping in San Marcos, his family told police. When he did not return that night and failed to show up for work the next day, his family and co-workers began searching for him.
“One of his co-workers who knew that he hung out there (by the river) went out there and checked on him and saw his vehicle there, and then his body was found in the river,” said San Marcos Police Department Commander Penny Dunn.
Dunn said Staley’s body was found near Thompson’s Island, off Cape Street west of its intersection with River Road. Staley worked at Gary Job Corps in San Marcos.Email | Print
