Police are asking for help identifying a man who attempted to sexually assault a Texas State University student Monday evening in the 1200 block of N. LBJ at about 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5.

The victim, a 20-year-old Texas State University student, had just exited a Texas State University bus and was walking home through a vacant lot near the intersection of N. LBJ Drive and Ramsay Street when a white male grabbed her jacket and attempted to pull her away from the roadway.

The male made statements that he intended to sexually assault the victim. The assault ended when an unidentified person driving on N. LBJ honked the horn until the suspect fled the area on foot. The victim was not injured.

The suspect was last seen running toward the vicinity of the Stonegate Apartments and is described as an 18-22 year-old white male, approximately six feet tall with a thin to medium build. He was wearing a dark wool coat, blue jeans and a dark knitted cap.

Anyone with information about this incident or the identity of the offender is urged to contact Sergeant Mike Wellman with the San Marcos Police Department at 512.754.2210.

This appears to be an isolated incident and there have been no other reports of similar incidents reported to police, city spokesperson Melissa Millecam said. Residents concerned about their safety are encouraged to travel in groups whenever possible and report any suspicious persons or circumstances by calling 911.

  1. Thank goodness the motorist saw the assault and took action.

The university bookstore should sell low-cost keyring pepper spray canisters to female students (they cost $6 or so at Academy but selling them on campus would be more convenient).

At the very least, that lowlife deserved a face full of liquid agony for his trouble.
