UPDATED 12:46 p.m. SATURDAY: The Sights & Sounds board of directors met Saturday morning and opted to cancel tonight’s events due to rainy weather.

“We are sorry that we have to cancel this wonderful celebration because of the bad weather,” said Brian Olson, president of the volunteer board. “We were looking forward to setting new attendance records for the 25th annual festival. The board weighed a number of alternatives, including adding additional days, but we found too many conflicts with other events and obligations.”

“I want to express our appreciation to the many organizations, vendors and volunteers who make this spectacular event possible,” he added. “We will look forward to next year’s 26th Sights & Sounds of Christmas.”

The annual holiday celebration drew thousands of attendees to the parks Wednesday and Thursday along the San Marcos River to enjoy live musical performances, visits with Santa Claus, the Town of Bethlehem, arts and crafts booths, food booths, skating rink and carnival rides.

Started in 1987, Sights & Sounds of Christmas has grown every year with more activities, vendors and participation.

  1. Well we’ve been praying for rain and on Sights and Sounds of Christ’mas we receive. Prayers are answered in mysterious and wonderful ways. A big thank you to all the numerous volunteers that make Sights and Sounds of Christmas happen every year.

  2. My organization was holding a fundraiser there, and we were disappointed when we lost out due to the bad weather, but we did need the rain. We’ll be happy to be out there next year!
