STAFF REPORT

On Tuesday, Hays County Judge Bert Cobb and Fire Marshal Mark Chambers announced a temporary end to the longstanding burn ban due to recent rainfall.

“The burn ban is lifted immediately and is expected to last until authorities determine that conditions warrant reinstating it,” said Laureen Chernow, Hays County spokesperson. “The rain is expected to be a temporary relief…dry conditions will return quickly.”

Chambers has asked those who burn to be extremely cautious due to the still-high potential for fires to spread unintentionally.

“Never leave a fire unattended, even for a few minutes,” Chambers said. “Always keep a source of water close at-hand.”
