STAFF REPORT

A homeless man found a body under a small bridge in the 800 block of Patton Street near H-E-B Park on Tuesday morning.

The remains were identified as those of 52-year-old Augustine Vasquez of San Marcos.

Police say there was no evidence of foul play. Justice of the Peace Joanne Prado ordered an autopsy, the results of which are pending.

This is the second time in 2011 that a dead body was found under a San Marcos bridge. Frank Urrutia, 51, was found dead Sept. 16 under the Blanco River Bridge near I-35. The cause of death was determined to be a homicide by blunt force trauma, police said.

The Urrutia murder is still under investigation.

“Detectives continue to follow up on leads,” said Melissa Millecam, City of San Marcos spokesperson. “As with any murder investigation, the case will never be closed and will remain under investigation until an offender or offenders are identified and prosecuted. There is no additional information that can be released at this time.”
