SUBMITTED REPORT

The City of San Marcos Nature Center recently held its first “Creature Crawl,” attracting more than 150 children and adults to meet some of the crawly creatures at the center Oct. 30.

The Creature Crawl allowed residents to get an up close and personal view of some of the Nature Center’s resident animals, setting an attendance record for the facility, located at 430 Riverside Drive.

On display were gulf coast toads, a Texas brown tarantula, ball pythons, a checkered garter snake, alligator lizards and a bark scorpion.

The event was staffed through volunteers from the Texas State Pagan Student Fellowship and Nature Center interns. All involved did a great job with costumes, characters, and educating visitors about the animals while passing out candy and prizes to the kids.

The Nature Center grounds were populated with trolls, fairies, pirates, and gypsies in addition to beautiful, blooming native plant beds at the Halloween-themed event.
