Jose Hernandez, director of Grammy nominated Mariachi Sol de Mexico, will give a clinic in San Marcos on Nov. 9.
The clinic, free and open to the public, will be held in room 216 of the Music Building on campus, at 7 p.m.
Hernandez and Mariachi Sol de Mexico have travelled all over the world performing and sharing mariachi music at sold-out concerts in countries like Spain, Argentina, Chile, China and North Korea. They have performed for the last five U.S. presidents and recorded with some of the most recognized names in the industry, including Jose Feliciano, Luis Miguel, Rocio Durcal, Juan Gabriel and Linda Ronstadt. The group has recorded several albums, two of which have been nominated for a Grammy and have contributed to film scores for movies such as Sea Biscuit, American Me, Don Juan de Marco and Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
Named one of the top 100 most influential Latinos in America by Hispanic Magazine, Hernandez has stretched the boundaries of mariachi with symphonic compositions for mariachi and arrangements influenced by everyone from Glenn Miller to Jose Alfredo Jimenez.
Hernandez’s clinic is sponsored by Texas State’s Latin Music Studies program.Email | Print
