STAFF REPORT

The Hays County Fire Marshal’s Office concluded its investigation of a fire that leveled a home just northwest of San Marcos on Sept. 27.

Asst. Fire Marshal Tim Gothard said the official cause of the blaze is undetermined. Gothard said the fire may have originated inside the home, possibly in the attic.

The home, which had a basement and a second story, was about 3,000-square feet and located at 323 Oak Meadows Drive. The fire consumed all the wood in the structure, detonated a propane tank, destroyed two vehicles, and displaced six people.

A resident of the home suffered minor burns but was not hospitalized. One firefighter was injured with steam burns, treated and released by EMS on-scene.

The aggressive response from six area fire fighting agencies prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby residences and the surrounding countryside.
