A 22-year old pregnant San Marcos woman died Thursday morning after she was struck by a hit and run driver Tuesday night as she walked across the I-35 west access road near Highway 80. Her infant, born after the collision, survived.
Diann S. Ford, 22, died Thursday morning at University Medical Center at Brackenridge in Austin. Her baby daughter was delivered by Caesarian section at Brackenridge where she was reported to be in good condition in the pediatric intensive care unit.

Tureaud said that Ford was crossing the west access road after leaving work at a nearby restaurant to return to her residence on Linda Lane east of I-35.
She was struck by an unknown vehicle driving in the far left lane around 11:05 p.m. in the 1100 block near the intersection with State Highway 80.
The victim was able to tell police that the car that struck her appeared dark and had extra bright headlights, Tureaud said.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of Ford’s death.
