SUBMITTED REPORT

San Marcos Academy senior Tiara Hansen has been selected as a 2011-12 National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar.

This year, the program is recognizing nearly 5,000 students from a pool of over 235,000 who took the 2010 PSAT/NMSQT exam and identified themselves as Hispanic/Latino.

Hansen, a San Marcos native, has attended SMA since 8th grade. Active in many extra-curricular areas, Hansen is a varsity volleyball, basketball and softball player and is president of the Student Council. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and is active in school musicals and plays.

A company commander in the school’s JROTC Bear Battalion, where she holds the rank of cadet first lieutenant, Hansen recently received a letter of assurance from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. The letter means Hansen will most likely be offered admission to West Point.
