A woman was attacked in her home at the Villagio apartment complex over the weekend and police say they may have the man responsible.
Jose Ernesto Chavez, a 22-year-old Texas State student, was arrested Monday and charged with sexual assault and strangulation, both second-degree felonies. He was jailed at the Hays County Law Enforcement Center and his bonds were set for a total of $200,000.
San Marcos police Cmdr. Penny Dunn said Chavez had been out with the victim and some of her friends Saturday evening and arrived at the Villagio apartment at approximately 3 a.m.
Dunn said the attack was unrelated to the assault at Aspen Heights apartment complex on Sept. 18. The suspected attacker, 21-year-old Lee Warren Johnson, was charged with burglary with intent to commit another felony, in this case, sexual assault. The charge is a first-degree felony.
“In both cases there were no signs of forced entry indicating the subjects entered through an unlocked entry point and the incidents occurred between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.,” Dunn said.
