STAFF REPORT

San Marcos city council members and San Marcos CISD trustees will meet on Oct. 10 to discuss ways the city and school district can function more symbiotically.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be at 5:30 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center. Trustees and council members last met on April 4, when they developed a list of common goals, including resource and services sharing, enhancing after-school activities, promoting community spirit, increasing professional development and training opportunities, and providing safe transportation alternatives to students who would otherwise have to walk to and from school down high-traffic roads.

“I just want to be upfront: as mayor, and as a city council, we have absolutely no…interest in taking over the operational needs of the school district,” said San Marcos Mayor Daniel Guerrero to school board members at the April 4 workshop. “Our goal is to work in partnership to make sure that we’re doing our part…this is a call for all hands on deck.”
