The City of San Marcos is celebrating the re-opening of the City Park Recreation Center.

Citizens joined the city council members and staff to mark the restoration of the facility after a fire severely damaged it two years ago.

The repairs and renovations include a climate-controlled banquet/meeting space and an expansion of the inner-tube rental area that the San Marcos Lions Club leases from the City and operates. The facility can seat 300 people and provides a safe and private area to hold events and parties on the San Marcos River.

To reserve the City Park Recreation Hall for an event, call the San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department at (512) 393-8400.

“We are delighted to have this wonderful facility reopen for public use,” said San Marcos Mayor Daniel Guerrero. “We appreciate the outstanding efforts of our Parks & Rec staff and contractors to create an even better Rec Center for our community to enjoy.”

Designed by Gomillion Kester Zimmerman, Inc., the project began in November 2010, with Harris Road Company managing the construction. For more information about the project, contact Oscar Hairell, city facilities manager, at ohairell@sanmarcostx.gov or call (512) 393-8410.
