A 5K run/walk on Sunday in San Marcos will kick-off a local effort to help people who are recovering from cancer treatment.
The San Marcos Professional Firefighters Association, the San Marcos Police Officers Association and Central Texas Medical Center are hosting this year’s Pink Heals campaign. Pink Heals is a non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating cancer recovery.
Children of all ages, strollers, and pets are all welcome Sunday’s race, which will begin at 7 a.m. at River Ridge Park on Carlson Circle. Late entry to the race is $30.
Throughout the Pink Heals campaign, organizers will sell pink t-shirts for $17 each. Shirts can be purchased at Central Texas Medical Center by calling (512) 753-3674 or emailing SMPinkHeals2011@yahoo.com. Proceeds will go to San Marcos area organizations that help the community battle all types of cancer.
The Pink Heals campaign will culminate in a parade on Oct. 16 featuring a pink fire truck and pink police car, and a rally at Plaza Park in San Marcos. Lunch will be sponsored by Texas Roadhouse for $8 a plate with a choice of hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches and sides.
