The Texas State University Department of Theatre and Dance presents Nilo Cruz’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Anna in the Tropics Oct. 4-9 on the main stage of the Theatre Center.
Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4-8, with a 2 p.m. matinee Oct. 9.
Directed by Jeremy O. Torres, “Anna in the Tropics” opens in 1929, telling the story of Cuban exiles working in a cigar factory in Ybor City, Fla. When a new lector is hired at the factory, the workers’ lives are forever altered. As the lector reads from the Russian novel, Anna Karenina, he casts a spell over the workers, sculpting their passions and desires through the affirming power of art.
