Police began a homicide investigation after a corpse was discovered near the Blanco River in San Marcos on Friday.

The deceased remains unidentified, said San Marcos Police Chief Howard Williams on Saturday evening.

“We really don’t have much to work on yet,” Williams said. “The investigators are working on it. We’re waiting to find out the cause of death, waiting for the autopsy results.”

The warden — a Texas Parks and Wildlife employee — discovered the corpse beneath the Highway 80 Blanco River bridge between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., Williams said.

“If anybody knows anything, we certainly need to talk to them,” Williams said.
