Detectives arrested San Marcos resident Lloyd “CJ” McKinney Sunday night on charges of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury after learning that his infant daughter was hospitalized with life-threatening head injuries while she was in his care during a weekend visit.
San Marcos police investigators learned from the child’s mother that McKinney’s 14-month-old daughter was airlifted to University Hospital in San Antonio Sunday afternoon, San Marcos police Cmdr. Penny Dunn said.
The mother, who lives in Seguin, had noticed their daughter was injured and took her to the emergency room at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center after McKinney returned her from the weekend visit. The child was injured in San Marcos, investigators say.
The daughter is in serious condition at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of University Hospital at San Antonio and is being treated for multiple skull fractures and internal injuries.
McKinney is being held at the Hays County Jail on the first-degree felony charges. Justice of the Peace Joanne Prado set bail at $75,000.
So tragic for this little girl. The bail amount strikes me as a bit low considering the depraved indifference displayed by McKinney.
I am always amazed how some people can’t seem to think five minutes ahead when they’re making decisions, so you end up with a baby girl seriously injured and a father who won’t take her to the ER. I’m sure he had some lame, ill-informed, selfish reason for leaving her suffering and untreated. Just incredible.
